Skyline Rules
The Skyline Network administration aims to provide a fun and positive atmosphere catering to a diverse adult audience from all over the world. In order to promote this a number of rules and regulations need to be enforced. The purpose of this page is to provide a list of these rules and regulations as well as provide etiquette for those interested in expectations of behaviour. While the rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure the Skyline Network is not disrupted or abused in any way.

Member accounts
a) No one under the age of 18 is allowed on the Skyline Network.

b) Only one registration account is allowed per member – absolutely no exceptions.

c) Members are not allowed to sign in under another members forum account for any reason.

d) Members Avatars and Signatures should not contain naked breasts, genitalia or sexual activity. This includes cartoons, art and any other visual category.

e) Sites which can be viewed as competitive to Skyline or promote anything illegal, racist or offensive in nature are not allowed to be any part of a Members profile. This includes member profiles, avatars and signatures.

f) Members are not allowed to be deceitful to the board administration, groups set up by the board administration or other board Members within any context of the board. This is regarded as fraud and deception.

f) Members that have been inactive for over 90 days will have their chip balance reset to 0.

g) Members that have been inactive for over a year will have their account removed.

Member Posting

a) Members should post in the English language.

b) Private communications should not be posted. This includes private messages originating from the board, IRC, emails, etc. unless permission has been given by the party involved or the communication was taken from elsewhere on the Internet.

c) Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase post count or chip count is not allowed.

d) The discussions of illegal activities, including but not limited to software and music piracy, are not allowed.

Social Behaviour
Within our forums, we will not tolerate rudeness, insult throwing and personal attacks. This extends to all areas of the forum where communication between members is taking place.

a) Members must not argue or fight with each other. A Forum Moderator will determine when this is happening – not the members involved.

Members must comply if a Moderator or Administrator asks a Member to:

i)  Stop communicating with another Member in a Thread

ii)  Stop posting in the Thread completely.

iii)  Stop communicating with another Member within the Shoutbox for a period of 12 hours.

iv)  Any other request a Moderator makes in the context of their forum.

This request is classified as a warning to the Member. If it is ignored, the Member will be subject to an Infraction immediately.

Repeated warnings will be reviewed by an Administrator with a view to administering a warning via PM where the context above concerning ignoring other users will change from Threads and posts to being global throughout the forum.

Skyline Etiquette Guidelines
Continual refusal to abide by certain guidelines will result in an Infraction.

a) Post things in the correct forum. We have multiple forums for organization on the board.

b) Thread titles and descriptions should pertain to the topic.

c) Quality over quantity. In more serious forums, please make sure your post has content. That basically means, give them something to read, pose a question, and so on. That is, after all, why you post in the first place.

d) Keep posts on topic. Posts need to stay on the current line of discussion. Never drift too far off the current topic of discussion when replying to a post.

e) Use the search option and check the FAQ before asking a question. Your question may have been asked before. This will not only save us time, but yourself time as well.

f) Caution and tolerance to different opinions should always be used when posting opinionated topics relating to politics, war, religion, ethnicity, affiliations or race.

g) Any member who is aware that a new member registering will have the same IP address as them should let the administration know as a matter of courtesy. This would include examples such as internet cafe regulars, couples in the same house, etc.

h) Post legibly. Don't write long, rambling posts without line breaks or paragraph spacing. Make the effort to check your spelling.

i) When 'catching up' or replying to a lot of posts in the same forum, respond to the oldest posts first. This allows new posts to stay at the top when you've posted to them all.

j) Don't open threads that are more than 30 days old, unless you have something constructive to add to them.

k) Use (NDF) in the title of posts with images over 100kbs. This tells users that the image in that post is Not-Dialup-Friendly and saves dialup users a lot of hassle.

l) Use (NSW) in the title of posts with images or content that is "not safe for work". This tells users that the post contains content which would may offend work colleagues if viewed in an office environment.

m) If a post contains material which is of a strong/violent nature but legal and within our Skyline rules. Adding the word ‘Graphic’ within the topic line would be helpful to members with regard to the content of the post.

n) When making a poll that includes other members, it is polite to ask their permission to use their nick as a poll option.

o) Don't 'blanket' post - a couple of posts in the same forum are fine and totally understandable. When there are a large number of posts made in a forum by the same person, it can be seen by other members as 'spam'.

p) When posting about televised events, keep time zones in mind. If posting information that would be a 'spoiler' for folks who haven't viewed it yet, it's polite to include that in the thread title or wait till the show/event has aired everywhere, before posting.

q) Don't campaign for votes, chips, reputation, icons, etc.

r) Please be aware Thread Hijacking is rude. This is the act of trying to steer a forum discussion thread off topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the subject at hand.

While this can be an intentional act of trolling, it is often accidental - caused by other participants in the discussion responding to a throwaway remark, taking the thread off at a tangent to the original subject matter. The results, whilst sometimes humorous or otherwise interesting, often provoke a feeling of resentment from the author of the original post.

s) Be careful how you word your posts - It is often hard to write in a way that shows how you're feeling or how you mean something to come across. Even if your intentions are good, the way you write something may be taken the wrong way. You don't have the opportunity to use facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice to communicate your meaning; only words. On the same note, try to really be careful about your response to posts made - just as hard as it is to make a meaning understood only from text, it's hard to get the right meaning from reading only text.

t) Be kind to newbie’s. We were all new once, and the reason we were drawn to Skyline was that people were nice to us. Return the favour.

u) Do not bring disagreements or issues from other areas within Skyline to the board. An example would be an argument that started in IRC being brought to the board. They should be conducted in private/pm. Issues should only be bought to the attention of Admin if they involve infractions of Skyline rules. v) Be courteous. Respect others. Argue against the content of the post, not the poster of the content. w) Members should not use board features in a negative way. This includes sending Megamall items to other Members anonymously with what can be perceived a negative intention and sending negative messages via any other anonymous feature of the board. x) Respect copyrights. Always quote the author where applicable. All copyrighted articles posted are subject to Fair Use. Please research copyright law further if you would like more information.

Infractions
a) Feature Infraction

The Member will not be able to use any of the board features in the features menu. They will also be subject to further restrictions throughout the board.

b) Read Only Infraction

As above, only the Member will not be able to post or send private messages.

c) Banning Infraction

The Member will be banned from Skyline.

The Infractions above will be given for a period of time determined by the giver of the Infraction. The Member will be informed of the period of time the Infraction will be in effect. However an Infraction will remain on a Members record for a period of 1 year. If a Member breaks another rule before the Infraction has expired from their record, they will receive the next level of infraction immediately. If a Member has been subject to a banning Infraction then they will be permanently banned next time.

If a member has any grievance with an Infraction they have been given, they must conduct communication in private with an Administrator only.

Contacting ISPs

If a member becomes so much of a pest to the point where they are impossible to stop, we will take the liberty to contact those who we can. A member will have their ISP contacted. We'll tell them what they have done, provide access logs, collaboration, and let them choose what to do from there. Likely the ISP will terminate their service as this very thing violates the same terms you agreed to for your internet connection.
