Default Gift Giving Rules?? - 06-10-2008, 03:05 AM

Apparently there are rules about giving gifts here at skyline. Who knew....not i. So if someone could direct me to the rules regarding gifting someone, i would be ever so grateful.

Several curiosities pop to mind however....

Perhaps if a gift is considered offensive, it really ought not to be offered in the megamall system. Also perhaps the person receiving the gift is reading something into the gift that isn't intended, but rather, is based on matters within their own conscience. Also, perhaps the person really just doesn't like the gifter, so therefore does not like the gift. Most difficult if they are a person with sky power over the said gifter. Shame.

Now granted it was gifted annoymously, so perhaps i should of put my name to it, and the gift would of been welcomed more??? You think??? Because that was the reason given. Or if there is something wrong with using the annon function.....I see everyone saying "thanks annon for a gift"....i happened to receive one yesterday. Fishy fishy. I am suspect that it is a personal thing in this example. Take it private...nono....not there either. You know, one person says one thing, then another something else....So confusing for me.

So yes, one of you people in the know-it-all, please advise, because i have looked at the the rules several times over, and see no mention of gift giving. It could be that i merely cannot find it, so welcome any direction offered. I will accept that as a gift.

On a final note, in my culture, you don't insult a person that has given you a gift......even if you don't like it. And sometimes gifts find you, for whatever reason....and there is lesson in that.

So tsk tsk you don't like my gift. *sighs*

Hi Betula,

Your post reminds me of a situation some time ago where a couple of members would continually sign up for new accounts. The reason being was so they could transfer the chips the concierge team gave to these new members to themselves. When these members were approached concerning this their defense was "I do not see a rule in place that says we can't".

Although there *was* no rule concerning it, it was obvious that it was a pretty shitty thing to do. Subsequently a rule had to be made...

The main essence of rules is to promote a pleasant environment and rules are generally in place for individuals that are unable to promote such an environment; Individuals that are lacking in the ability to ascertain what is acceptable social behavior within a group.

In this instance the giving of icons anonymously such as a pig or other items which can be viewed as derogatory can quite easily fall within the "pretty shitty thing to do" category and thus it can be categorised under our general rule:

Quote:

a) We will not tolerate rudeness, insult throwing, personal attacks, purposeless inflammatory behavior, harassment and disruption.
It doesn't matter who they were sent to. If we are asked about it we will investigate it. It has been going on for a while now, and members have been punished for it - they just didn't make a big deal of it by going public. They tend to be angry that they got caught more than anything else. They were quite unaware the system was even being monitored and thought this outlet of anger would be undisturbed.

Unfortunately, due to the continual abuse of the anonymous element of item giving, we are going to have to introduce ANOTHER rule in order to ward off those that are ignorant to it being anti-social. Either that, or remove the anonymous element altogether.

Hope this helps,

J

I, for one, would be VERY VERY upset if the anonymous element is taking out as an option! I tend to give most of my gifts to people anonymously because i ENJOY knowing that each gift i receive is from the heart and not because i gifted someone.

I don't always know why "anonymous" gives me some of the things that they do. But i'm sure it was chosen for a particular reason that is known to them and maybe i'm smart enough to figure it out. If not, so what, i got a nice surprise whether it be a "pig" or a "flower"

I'd rather have all anonymous gifts monitored by someone than to have it taken away!

*don't give me that job, jinxy, i can't keep a secret at all*

I also like to give gifts occassionally anonynously. Sometimes it's the only way I can give someone a gift without worrying if they are taking it as it was meant or seeing it as me flirting. So I think it would hurt many people if it was taken away.

when did everyone start taking everything so seriously! LOL! In fairness... it must be a tough way to be, to take everything to heart and not be able to have a giggle about things...

Betula, this is in no way directed at you, in fact, im not even really sure whether the gift was sent to you, or whether a gift you sent was taken the wrong way... but i think everyone needs to lighten up! Having to second guess everything on here is making people nervous about giving gifts, making posts in certain threads etc... rules having to be made for absolutely everything etc... we're all adults, i dont see why everyone has to act so childishly all the time!

I vowed a few weeks ago that i wouldnt get involved in threads that kinda had nothing to do with me (like this one, but i couldnt not post)... in general, i think everyone should lighten up and start enjoying being online/ on skyline or whatever... rather than people trying to find new ways of pissing other people off... first it was the rep thing that was abused, now it's gifts? If we as adults continue with this? we may as well say goodbye to the lot of it, cause it's simply ridiculous! Here i go cheerleading the blues... but they're not our parents, they shouldnt have to scold us for stuff, we just shouldnt do... they shouldnt have to make out all of these rules... when most of it, is just common decency and self restraint - all of which, we as mature adults, should understand and practice!

I'm gonna get off the bandwaggon now again, cause ive been tryin so hard to stay off it... but i just feel like it had to be said!
