guess the question should be what constitutes a serious discussion and what constitutes chit chat?

lmfao i dont get it. so the issue of whether jeolousy is a good thing or not is considered a more serious pursuit upon the intellect? i would think jealousy is more a matter of opinion, than the ideas around what makes one an armchair intellectual, and what is acceptable within the venue....but hey that is just my opinion. i mean come on, did great thinkers never think about thinking??

oh i know....i shall go assess the jealousy thread and see what constitutes armchair intellectuals....becaues obviously that is a perfect example. and if our discussion about what happens in armchair intellectuals has any merit, i shall find research as well as opinion.

Jealousy is a topic that can be seriously discusssed.

What happened to the serious topics of conversation in Armchair Intellectuals is not really a subject to be discussed with differing opinions, points of view and so on.

The topic of conversation that was going through the threads except for some smart ass remarks was what the definition of an armchair intellectual was / is.

So you (as in management) find no value whatsoever in someone attempting to engage people as to why a thread section may not be being used. Sure there are lulls....but sometimes, and i could be wrong about this....its good for people to talk about how something is going.....if they are indeed the ones that use it. And it can be opinion based, philosophical, quotes, research etc. But that is apparently not serious, that is chitchat. As in a conversation we would have while waiting in line to pay for our groceries at the shop. But no, we will just rely on management to define that for us....never a need to understand where eachother is coming from around here.

No Betula. That is not what I said at all. I merely quoted your topic which was : where are all the armchair intellectuals, and in the next sentence you ask if we have exhausted all the topics? are topics for discussion a serious armchair intellectual topic ? IMO no. They are a topic to be idly discussed in chit chat.

I look at it this way,

The topic of this thread has logic to it and a discussion could be made from it.

On the topic of jealously I dont think there is any benift to discussing it, IT is at the core of most wars, (it goes hand in hand with greed) and serves little usfull purpose, (you do not need to be jelous to question things)

So in my view this thread has as uch right to be in armchair area as the jealously thread, Or many be both should be in chit chat. But I think by the very nature this thread has now taken, it has become a debate, and a discussion.
