Default Mobile phone on the move - 07-08-2008, 12:31 PM

Just wondering, Not sure about the USA or abroad but in the UK its ileagle to drive while talking on a phone (unless its hands free)

So mister here yesturday got pulled up by the coppers for doing just that!! (my fault i hold my hands up, no excuses, but i would like to say i dont make it a habbit..)

and the policeman was telling me that i should get a new one, and as long as i was using that then it was ok.

Now that may be the law, but it has been shown that while it is slightly better to talk on a hands free kit, it is still many times more dangrous than not being on the phone at all.

but who here talks on the phone in there car, and who uses a hands free?

* Olivia takes a deep breath.

It infuriates me that people talk on the phone and think they can drive at the same time. Some actually text message people and drive.

Just this past winter i made a thread about an accident i witnessed. The woman said "i don't know what happened. I don't know what happened. I was looking for my cell phone and.....then this"

I wanted to SLAP THE BITCH silly! I made damn sure i told the cop and the insurance companies that called me a week or two later.

I can not even count how many times someone was drifting into other lanes it was because they were yapping it up on the phone and not paying attention until i beep my horn and yell at then to hang up the fucking phone!

I hate phones. I hate mobile phones even more. Needless to say, I don't even have mine on much of the time let off talk on it while driving. It is very illegal in New York (like most everything else). I expect laws that say that you cannot eat or drink while driving due to the distraction THAT inflicts. I also expect that someday you will no longer be able to smoke in your own car for similar reasons (the distraction of lighting up and butting out etc).

I guess if I were to have an opinion on this subject it would be that I hate phones about as much as I hate more laws.

i'd be happy to stalk.........errrrrrrrrrr..........i mean........follow you around

My phone has rung while i was driving. If someone is in the car with me, i ask them to answer it and tell whoever it is that i will call back. If i'm alone, i will let it ring and when i stop, i will call them back. OR........i pull over!!!

While driving home in a terrible rain storm, viking called me. I let the phone go to voice mail. I did have to pull off the highway because visibility was ZERO! I listened to the voice mail. He wanted to tell me to be careful driving home since the rain was so bad. LMFAO!!!

Nobody and nothing is so important that you need to be on the phone while driving. just my lil ole opinion. However, i do know that if i'm in an accident cause someone was on their phone......if i can get out of my car....i'm gonna make sure the other driver has to go to the hospital and i WILL sue for every penny i can get. And i don't believe in sueing someone for more than is absolutely necessary. Hell, i fell out of a bus once and didn't even file a report. I've been in accidents (as a passenger) and NEVER sued anyone.

Plus, you're in Ireland!! the chances of you and I getting into an accident are rather slim, doncha think. LOL

I do know you, ditzy! If you hurt someone because of an accident.....on the phone or not, you'd be heartbroken. Why up the probability of such an accident?

As far as driving being boring.......whatever happened to singing loudly to the radio? Yelling at other drivers? These are exciting driving passtimes.

what's more important? Keeping yourself, other drivers and innocents safe, or, having someone keep you company by being on the phone with you.

I love you, ditzy dollydot!!!!

Honestly, i dont see it as upping the probability of having an accident... if i know im gonna be driving straight on a motorway for 2 hours... ima be on the phone... if im driving thru the city in rush hour traffic and torrential rain... i wont be on my phone... yanno?!

I don't know how busy your highways are. You've always shown good judgement, that i can tell. So i trust that you know your capabilities and surroundings.

I do know, here In the philadelphia area, they talk on those phone in busy innercity streets, suburban heavily traveled streets and on major highways and it's a dangerous practice. I won't do it because it IS dangerous and i couldn't live with myself if i hurt someone because i was on the phone when my concentration should have been on the road around me.

If i know i am doing ALL i can to make sure i'm a safe driver, then if an accident happens i will be secure in the knowledge that it was not my fault. I'll sleep better at night.

again..........that's just my feelings on the subject.
